Practice
Eleven people, one office, and a deliberately short list of the things we do.
Text
Cadence is a design practice working on brand and product systems for organisations that have outgrown improvisation but do not want an in-house studio. We are eleven people. We take four engagements at a time, which is fewer than we could sell and roughly what we can do properly.
How we charge
Fixed scope, fixed price, stated in the proposal along with a written list of what is deliberately excluded. We have never sent a change order for something we should have anticipated, which is mostly a function of scoping slowly rather than of virtue.
What we will not do
We do not run advertising, we do not do brand naming as a standalone piece of work, and we do not take engagements where the person who has to live with the result is not in the room. The third one has cost us more work than the first two combined.
Who we work with
Organisations between roughly forty and eight hundred people, usually with a small internal marketing or product team and no dedicated design function. Below forty there is not enough to systematise; above eight hundred you should be hiring, and we will tell you so.
Where we are
One office, above a print shop, which is convenient more often than you would expect.

Tell us what youare actually trying to do.
Most engagements start with a ninety-minute call and a one-page note back. No deck, no discovery invoice.
