Physical wayfinding is where a derived system stops being a nice idea and starts being an economic argument. Three contractors were fabricating signs from three interpretations of the same brand PDF, and the differences were visible when you stood on a platform.
Values a fabricator can use
We published the derived palette as a table of measured values with the sheet materials named against each one, plus a one-page rule for how a new line colour enters the system. The contractors stopped ringing to ask.
The digital half
Live departure screens and the passenger site read the same table. When a line colour changed in 2024, it changed everywhere on the same morning, which had never previously happened.
